Start your Umpiring Journey
with Netball Fun League
Interested in becoming a netball umpire? Whether you’re currently injured, stepping back from playing, or simply keen to learn a new side of the game, umpiring is a great way to stay involved in netball. At Netball Fun League, we support umpires at all stages — but everyone starts in the same place.
Step 1: England Netball – Into Officiating Course
All new umpires must first complete England Netball’s Into Officiating course. This course provides:
-
An introduction to the rules of the game
-
An understanding of the umpire’s role and responsibilities
-
The foundation needed to begin umpiring
You must submit an Expression of Interest via England Netball. Courses are released periodically, and only those who have registered interest will be notified.

Step 2: Continue Your Development with Netball Fun League
Once you’ve completed the England Netball course, you can then come to Netball Fun League to continue your umpiring development. All new umpires go through our mentoring and support process, which helps you build confidence and gain practical experience in a game environment. Once you’ve completed this process and been signed off, we can then offer regular umpiring opportunities within our leagues.
We offer:
-
Mentored umpiring opportunities
-
Ongoing support and feedback
-
Clear progression at a pace that suits you
-
Paid umpiring opportunities once signed off
You don’t need to be an experienced player — just reliable, willing to learn, and keen to be part of the game.
